Robyn's E News 23 Feb 09

Hi All,
It was billed as a Challenge Race and it was! First up the swim was a deep water start and it was any stroke bar freestyle, the mtb was a new course so competitors had to be alert and the run was along the beach all the way to Dudley Point and included a push up, a sit up and a chin up and then just to finish off, a basketball slam dunk was required !! RD Aaron Caden kept up the secrecy right until race brief !

Our thanks to Aaron for his efforts with this event which also included providing a great breakfast of juice, BBQ bacon & egg sangas and iced coffee (as well as the cooks) - to add to the normal post race refreshments. Aaron was assisted by a fantastic group of volunteers and our thanks also go to them for their assistance.

OTHER NEWS:
1. Ernie Koch received special dispensation from the RD and was the only competitor allowed to freestyle in the swim = Happy Ernie !

3. Those of you heading for Perth for the Australian Triathlon Championships (Olympic distance) should get your entry in now as the event is filling up fast. Double selection points are on offer for the Age Group team for World Champs later this year.

4. There were some disappointed triathletes around who left it too late to enter the Aust Long Course champs at Huskisson and missed out because the field was full and entries closed early.

5. Draft officials were out in force at Huskisson.

6. Our race calendar is currently under review with the 09/10 season in mind. If you would like to make a suggestion for an event or comment on what you like or don't like about the current calendar, now is the time. Robyn's E News 19 Feb 09

Hi All,

Due to a quick interstate trip, this is a delayed edition of what is normally mid week E News.

All talk this week is about just what we will be doing and where we will be doing it for Sunday's Challenge Race. RD Aaron Caden is being pretty tight lipped on detail except to say it will be traditional format of swim, mtb bike, run. Aaron has been doing some pruning and planning in preparation.

RESULTS:

1. Bribie Island Triathlon - Qld, 1km swim, 28km bike, 8km run

Male: Ben Holland 1.25.15 Female: Natalie Dellow 1.36.51

Angelika Hannon 3rd F45-49 1.57.53

2. Aquathlon - Canberra - 300m swim, 2.5km run, 300m swim, 2.5km run

Male: Michael Gosman 25.22 Female: Sarah Fien 28.55

Anthony Beven 1st M40-44 29.25

NEXT EVENT:

Sunday 22 Feb 09
Challenge Race (MTB)
Lake Alexander, 7am (Registration closes 6.45am sharp)

Format and distances announced at race brief.

Roster:

Race Director: Aaron Caden
Registration: Ian Pollock / Sandra Yee
Timekeeping: Monica Stewart / Jodie McLeod
Fruit / Ice: Simon Wiese

1. This is a challenge race - expect the unexpected and perhaps have the napisan ready and waiting at home.

2. Seriously you could once again get a tad muddy so maybe leave the good gear at home and wear something that doesn't matter much.

UNIFORM ORDER:

1. Is definitely closing tomorrow. From numbers received at this stage it appears highly unlikely that a repeat order will be able to go ahead. So if you have been thinking maybe, now is the time to get that order in.

FOR SALE/ WANTED ETC:

1. FOR SALE: Giant TCR Advanced 0, 2008, Small, ridden for about 9 months - excellent condition.
$3700 ono (inc. carbon cages and aerobars) Contact Bec Thyne on 0408878689 or rebecca.thyne@gmail.com

2. PHYSIO: Ali Fitch is again accepting private physiotherapy patients, and is keen to focus on sport/triathlon related matters. Call Stu on 0418 437 075, or 8981 3001 to make an appointment. Rates are $70 for initial 55 minute appointment, and $55 for subsequent 40 minute appointments.

2. Items for E News on Monday need to reach me by Sunday morning please.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Rowena Eastick is happy with her club swimmers and the knicks - she says she now slices through the water and the air like a knife... a very blunt knife! She also says it sounds like the MTB tri's have been fun! They are now in the middle of the dry season - which means she can get back exploring and taking short cuts through the rice paddies without ending up waist deep in mud somewhere! Rowie will get back here for a race, eventually! She was thinking about doing Arafura, but now has a unique opportunity to do a trek in a very remote part of the Himalayas (up Kangenegunga, the 3rd highest mt.... not to the top!), so Arafura will miss out!

2. I like this description of triathlon from Tim Don - "Triathlon appeals because it's a challenge to yourself and there's variety in the three disciplines," says Don. "The type who gets involved is someone who loves a challenge, loves seeing their progress, loves getting competitive as they start racing and goes crazy from there."

3. Word is Mooloolaba Triathlon is pretty much at sell out stage. If you haven't entered & want to go, I'd be getting in quick.

4. Good luck to our members including Michelle Gailey, Grant Preddy and Mick Outhred who will be in action at the Australian Long Distance Championships at Huskisson this weekend.

5. Ironman Australia entries close 27 February 2009.

6. Lesley Thorpe is well and training the house down in preparation for Mooloolaba.

7. Vicki Woodrow thinks the wet season has followed her after 5 days of continuous rain. Most recently 9 inches in 24 hrs.

8. Lance Armstrong has been competing in the Tour of California. 4 special time trial bikes including his were stolen between stages. Of the theft, Armstrong said, "I suspect that bike will come back. There's no way you can steal a one-of-a-kind bike unless you keep it to yourself or burn it."

9. Many of you will remember Neil Weeks. Neil's still in Canberra and heads up a Govt Insurance organisation. Not bad for a guy who only went down for a short term contract. He is still happy Neil !

10. Good luck to Nikki Roddie, Ian Norton and Damian Brown who are competing in IM Malaysia shortly.

11. Then before they get back Shaye Hatty and Alison Croser will have left for IM New Zealand - good luck to both girls in their IM debut.

12. I'm hoping to get a quick E news out on Monday with results from the weekend. Then due to race commitments there will be short break. Read IM Malaysia here I come !
