Robyn's E News 1 April 09

Hi All,

Woo hoo, tri season proper is happening in the Top End. We have another "real" triathlon coming up this weekend. Again numbers are expected to be high so please ensure you get to the race site early.

Those of you who have already raced a couple of events under the One Day Membership scheme will be required to sign up as members .. ODMs don't go on forever, they are there so you can have a "tri". We still have a choc a block calendar of events to come including Arafura Games, so go to the club website, download the membership form, fill it out and bring on Sunday. Best value for money you will ever spend and you will be part of the friendliest club in Darwin.

NEXT EVENT:

Sprint Triathlon

Sunday 5 April 09
Lake Alexander
7am (registration closes 6.45am)

750m swim, 26km bike, 5km run

Race Director: Allan Stancombe
Registration: Kyle Gear / John Thyne
Timekeeping: Helen Gould / Peter Hourigan
Fruit / Ice: Asha Mahasuria

Notes:

1. Competitors are required to obey all traffic rules including the need to STOP for RED lights.

2. A lucky draw will take place following race for vouchers from Ali Fitch Physio (0418 437 075) or for a Swedish or Sports massage in the comfort of your home by Alexandria (0414 875 382).

FOR SALE / WANTED ETC:

1. Items or requests for re runs for next E News by 8pm Sunday please.

ARAFURA GAMES / NT OLYMPIC DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS:

1. Thank you to those who have already completed Part 1 of your entry via the Arafura Games accreditation process.

2. Now it's time to complete Part 2. This is the bit where you part with a few dollars (chicken feed for the value received so please ... no complaints. This is Triathlon NT's biggest event of the year and need to cover costs like medals, admin, equip etc.).

3. Attached is the NT OD entry form. It contains all info needed to have you in the correct categories for the NT Champs as well as details of how to pay.

4. Part 2 is same as Part 1 - due 5pm Friday 10 April 09 (yes I know that's Good Friday, so get it done NOW).

5. Entry is via Triathlon NT, not Darwin Triathlon Club so don't try and pay at registration on Sunday, can't happen.

6. Again, a reminder that absolutely no late entries will be taken ... unless you are Courtney Atkinson or Emma Snowsill wanting a hit out.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Chad Anderson should be on his way to Geelong to top up his selection points for ITU World Champs in September. A tangle with a car on Monday has Chad nursing a broken arm instead. We share his disappointment and wish him a speedy recovery.

2. Scott Bevis and Melissa Thompson tie the knot this weekend. Congratulations to both.

3. Following recent bike path attacks it makes good sense to again suggest that you do your run training with a partner (especially if you are female). Many of us are plugged in and spaced out while running and forget the need to be aware of what is happening around us. If you do have to run alone, please stay out of secluded areas and be alert.

4. Our Ironpersons are all heading for Port Mac, some have already departed. Nikki Roddie, Ian Norton, Stu Fitch, Paul Bell, Rob Brooks, Mick Outhred and Phil Brownscombe now also have rising floodwaters to contend with ..... and that's just to get there !

5. The next Challenge Wanaka in New Zealand will also include a Half Wanaka.

6. Craig Garland will also be in action this weekend. He is heading to Geelong for the final TA Challenge event and hoping to add to his points tally for Worlds. Good luck Craig.

7. Closing dates for applications for the various ITU World Championships are approaching. NT athletes should contact TA to have their password set to enable access to the system.

TRIATHLON TRIVIA:

Q: I'm new to triathlon and want a club tri singlet to race in. Where do I get one?

A: Darwin Triathlon Club currently don't have any in stock. We didn't receive enough orders when we called for expressions of interest recently. If there is enough demand we may consider another order but unless numbers are there it won't happen. We also call for payment on order. The best suggestion is to get yourself down to CycleZone in Mitchell St or K9 Cycles cnr of Totem Rd and Delatour St in Coconut Grove. They usually have tri gear in stock.

Triathlon 3 x the fun
Cheers
Robyn
