Robyn's E News 22 June 09

Hi All,

We had near perfect conditions for the Sprint Race at Lake Alexander yesterday. We hope those who competed for the first time yesterday will be joining the club and become regular faces at our events in the future.

Race Director Barry Sullivan and helpers did a great job with this one and we appreciate their efforts. A special thank you to those on timekeeping. They stepped in at the last minute to assist when others were unavailable and with the spread of competitors it was a challenging job to carry out.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Those sleeping in backpacker vans at Lake Alex yesterday got an early and noisy awakening. Some in the way were moved on while the rest would still have the sound of metal racks clanging in their ears.

2. Yesterday's winners (Kyle & Michelle) received a triathlon tranz mat courtesy of Shane & Tri My Gear.

3. There is a very strong rumour that Team Sheffield is the gun team for the upcoming NT Long Course Triathlon.

4. Also some news that the stork will be busy later this year.

5. Big news out of M Dot land - Message from Dallas O'Brien, Director Athletics & Fitness, IMG Australia I am writing to confirm that IMG will be presenting the following Ironman events in the forthcoming race season:

Ironman Western Australia, Busselton – 5 December 2009
Ironman 70.3 Geelong – 7 February 2010
Ironman Australia, Port Macquarie – 28 March 2010

At the conclusion of these events, IMG will cease to be the licence holders for Ironman in Australia. This follows advice from World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), owners of the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 brands, that they will be managing the Australian events themselves after the 2009/10 season.

IMG has held the licence to Ironman Australia for 16 years; Ironman Western Australia for six years; and, most recently, introduced Ironman 70.3 Geelong two years ago. The entire Athletics & Fitness team, which includes Ken and Glenda Baggs and Shane Smith, is deeply disappointed that our association with Ironman will conclude in April next year; as part of the Ironman family, you all know that running these events is much more than a job to all who are involved ‘behind the scenes'.

There will be plenty of time to acknowledge all of the remarkable people who have contributed to the success of our events over the past 16 years. In the meantime, we are all looking forward to presenting three of the best Ironman events we have ever delivered, and I encourage you all to make the commitment, book your accommodation, and see you in Busselton, Geelong AND Port Macquarie! Further details on the 2009/10 season of events is available on www.ironmanoz.com.

6. Our pointscore is finalised for 2008/2009 - all will be revealed at our annual Presentation Night (details soon to come).

7. Some of our members will be in action at the Bali International Triathlon this weekend. They include Helen Bretten, Michelle Gailey, Daryl Stanley, Kyle Gear, Shaye Hatty, Phill Hatty, Robyn Stanley, Ron Griep, Lauren Stephenson, Tony West, Alison Croser and Dave Croser. Most are hoping to make the bike blessing ceremony. Interested in a late entry: www.balitriathlon.com

Cheers,
Robyn
