... you fill the time between sessions with more sessions (and try to keep it a secret from your coach).
... you are tempted to do your long rides in togs so you don't have tan lines visible for your next race.

Have a great weekend,
Cheers,
Robyn

Robyn's E News 6 July 2009

There were a few bleary eyes around courtesy of Le Tour coverage. Our thanks to Race Director Brian Gallagher and the other fantastic volunteers who helped out for the event, much appreciated.

OTHER NEWS:

1. New Zealand have a "Bloke Free" triathlon series.

2. Hey, stop groaning, they also have a "Blokes" Triathlon.

3. Still on New Zealand, here's some info about the 600 km, Five Passes Tour (29 Oct - 2 Nov): Riders select one of five grades to ride in, A-D and social and ride as part of a 4 person team. Each day is broken into stages. These stages have neutral (means no racing) sections to allow time for enjoyable relaxed riding and a chance to get to know the other people on the Tour. Approximately half of the total distance is neutral riding which makes completing the tour a very achievable goal. It also means plenty of recovery time to allow riders to enjoy the scenery and the company of the like minded people in their bunch. Outside the neutral stages the competition points and Jerseys are up for grabs with the opportunity to test yourselves against the best climbers and sprinters in the tour, or just carry on biking at your pace enjoying the magnificent scenery we travel through. Most of all this event is about having fun on and off the bike, making new friends and pushing your limits to a new level. Join us on this years tour the rewards are huge. Goggle "Five Passes Tour" if this appeals.

4. Chris McCormack went 8.03.05 in Frankfurt for 3rd spot. Tough field.

5. With the smaller numbers at the weekend it was pretty obvious to spot those drafting. Since Arafura, we have now got to the stage of "if you can't beat them, join them" even by some for whom drafting is way out of character. Yes, there is a very great advantage to be gained by drafting on the bike, even for a little bit. We know that ... that's why it's not allowed in our sport and is cheating.

6. As I rarely, if ever, get to be in a position to decide whether to draft or not, I'm thinking my best bet is to start turning early on the run. (Tongue firmly in cheek here, but you get my drift).

7. So, how about next race we ALL make a conscious effort to follow the rules? You will enjoy your individual result more and sleep better for it !

8. Yeppoon Half Ironman is a sell out this year.

9. The Frankfurter Sparkasse Ironman European C'ships is the largest qualifying race for Hawaii. More than 2,300 athletes from 55 nations competed and hundreds of thousands of spectators converged on the historical city of Frankfurt for the event. They love their triathlon there!

10. Info on Tour de Timor can be found at www.tourdetimor.com.

11. A very fit looking Nerida Godfrey heads off to Europe soon for her bike tour. Envious !

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you can't decide which event t shirt to wear to the next race
... you are convinced that if you rest more than one day your muscles will atrophy, your ultra-fit body will turn into a pile of mush and everyone in your age group will beat you
... you see your kids playing pretend race and awards ceremony

Cheers,
Robyn
