1. Swimming NT’s Open Water Championships are on Saturday 3 October 2009 to be held at Lake Bennett (open to registered members of NT Swimming, Surf, Tri and Masters Clubs). 1.2km, 5km and 10km (if minimum of 3 entries) will be conducted. Entry $20 Registration 7-7.30am for 8am start. Further information: www.ntswimming.org.au

2. I'm hoping those competing in the Gold Coast Half Ironman this weekend don't catch up with former member Matt Redwood during the event! He's a draft official this year and hated the packs when he competed last year. We wish Matt all the best on the back of the motorbike and good luck in splitting up the competitors.

3. You will have missed Mark Edmonds at recent events. His first love, of course, is sailing and he has moved to Sydney for the next 6 months to train with the NSW Institute of Sport and Olympic Development Scholarship under the guidance of one of sailing's best laser coaches. Unfortunately he will be out of the tri scene this year and he has been trying to put on weight - and has managed to get 10kgs on since the Arafura Games Triathlon. We wish Mark all the best with this fantastic sporting opportunity.

4. Triathlon Australia recently announced that Sydney will revisit its Olympic Games glory days when Sydney Harbour and the Opera House are showcased to the world when it hosts a leg of the 2010 ITU Triathlon World Championship Series in April.

The announcement, made recently by the Premier of NSW the Hon. Nathan Rees on the Opera House steps alongside Australia’s newly crowned world champion Emma Moffatt, will see Sydney host a leg of a global eight race series for the next three years. It is a joint initiative between Events NSW, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and Triathlon Australia.

The event, to be held on April 11, will feature elite competitors only in 2010. The following year it will expand to accommodate thousands of age group athletes, who will have the chance to ride over the Sydney Harbour Bridge on a multi-loop circuit.

5. Good luck to those heading south next week for the Melbourne Marathon.

6. Scody will be dispatching club uniforms shortly. Hoping they will be here to distribute when I get back from the Big Island.

Safe training,

Cheers,

Robyn

OTHER NEWS:

1. Have a burning desire to compete in Hawaii but know qualification is pretty much a pipe dream? You may like to consider applying for a lottery slot. A mainstay in the history of the Ironman, the Ironman lottery began in 1983 thanks to the vision of one of Ironman's founders, John Collins, as a way to provide athletes of all abilities the opportunity to qualify for the world's most challenging one day endurance event. The 2010 Ironman Lottery Program will officially open on Wednesday, October 1 at 12:00 p.m. EST and will close on Saturday, February 28, 2010 with all winning entries being announced on Wednesday, April 15, 2010. Further information www.ironman.com

2. How popular is triathlon these days: not only did Noosa 2009 sell out in 4 days with 3,000 individuals and 1,000 teams entered, but apparently there are ......2,600 on the waiting list !!

3. A number of our members are heading off to do the Gold Coast Half Ironman this weekend including Bec Thyne, Heath Porter, Tim Ellison and Phil Blumberg. Good luck !

4. All individual and team entries for Ironman Western Australia close on 23 October – no exceptions! So if you're planning on being on the start line this December, visit www.ironmanwa.com and enter now.

5. Phil Hatty's mum Margaret cooked up a big bbq brekkie for the hungry hordes after yesterday's race. Talk about spoiling the competitors, and I'm sure there was no weight lost by anyone !! Thanks Margaret, you are a gem!

6. Shaye's fruit platter also raised the bar yet again in the post race refreshment area ! Yummo !

7. Ironman WA bound Alison Croser cruised into transition after a long run yesterday morning. Ali is looking in awesome shape and is only 8 weeks out from racing.

8. Angelika Hannon posted an Olympic Distance pb at the Noosa Tri Club event over the weekend. Looking good for Noosa proper !

Cheers,
Robyn
