Robyn's E News 16 Dec 09

Hi All,

This will be the last E News for 2009 so I'd like to take the opportunity to wish all readers a very happy Christmas and all the best for the new year where ever you may be.

I've enjoyed bringing you the mixed bag of tri news and info. that is the e news. My apologies for the odd typo, some of you have occasionally appeared faster than normal, others (though not too often I hope) have had some time added due to the odd slip of a finger (or non wearing of glasses) !

Darwin Triathlon Club is fortunate that our members have such positive experiences here that they often enjoy receiving the E News when they move. Thanks to those of you now living interstate and overseas who check in regularly. Thanks also to our members who point me in the right direction, particularly those who let me know events to watch for.

E News will be back in your inbox early January.

2. And while on Alice Springs, they have a new committee for season 09/10. Dean Nankivell takes the President's chair, Secretary is Loie Sharp, Treasurer Sean Loader. Committee members are Tony Knott, Alison Foster and James Tudor. The future of the club looks bright. A huge vote of thanks was extended to outgoing treasurer Melissa Roberts who has kept the club ticking over for years & handed the books over with the club in a sound financial.

3. Many of you will know cyclist Al Brockman. He has been a keen cyclist for many years and was part of the Darwin Cycling Club for around 5 years. Recently Al was deliberately run down by a motorist in Exmouth WA and he is intensive care and will be for many months.
As per the flyer, Darwin Cycling Club are asking people to buy a raffle ticket to help raise funds for Al and his young family. The prizes are a 26” High Definition LCD TV and a Digital Camera donated by Andrew Barcroft of the Good Guys. The easy to follow instructions for buying a raffle ticket are attached.

If you can help in any way it would be appreciated, Further info contact Andrew 0419 267 702

4. Don't forget the Aeroguard ! The mozzies are ferocious at the moment.

Robyn's E News 14 Dec 09

Hi All,

What a soggy, soggy weekend ! But how nice not to be hot & sweaty for a change. Hope you haven't suffered much too much damage. Some have had trees come down, potplants smashed and there are a few ceilings leaking. Lake Alexander is full, as is the Waterfront Lagoon. The wavepool is closed due to the new "pool" which has appeared down there on the walkways. Rapid Creek now Rapid River, and it's still raining!

It's that time of year again when we all head in different directions so Wednesday's E News will be the last until early January (unless there is something really, really exciting or important to tell you). If you have news, items for sale or wanted, or announcements please have them to me by 8pm tomorrow for inclusion.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Congratulations to Grant Preddy and Michelle Gailey who were up against the likes of Jason Shortis and Bec Keat in Canberra yesterday. It's a credit to both that they were able to compete at that level, who knows what the future will bring now they have made that momentous first step up.

2. Angelika Hannon was also in action in Canberra yesterday doing her first ever half ironman.

3. Canberra Half is over a tough course and conditions were very hot (and dry)! Spare a thought though for Vincent Gilly who would much rather have been in the field than watching on from the sidelines. Vincent is recovering well from his injuries.

4. Ali Croser has been kicking back in Adelaide following IM WA and is feeling great.

5. No rest for Stu Fitch who has just done 3000kms in three days ... in a car that is !

6. Simon Wiese is going to bring his potplants in a little earlier next non cyclone we have.

7. Kathy & Duncan Poulson's neighbours left a note on their door demanding they stop the beeping noise, especially at night. Their reply "Ah, life in the tropics, ain't it grand. The 'beeping' noise you can hear is called croaking. It comes from frogs." This one made Bushranger in the NT News yesterday.

8. Paul Bell knows when to leave town. He headed off early on Saturday so his memories of Darwin will be hot and muggy.

9. Katherine Multi Sport calendar just released has Ultra Challenge on Sunday of the long weekend - 13 June 2010.

10. Photos from Xmas Splash N Dash are up on Flickr.

11. "Op 20 december staan er 4500 gelukkige hardlopers aan de start van de Bruggenloop Rotterdam." Ron Griep will be one of the 4500 "gelukkige hardlopers" in the Rotterdam Bridge Run (15kms).

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... the windtrainer got a workout over the weekend
... you were dressed and ready to run & had one eye on the BOM radar watching for a break.
... you took the opportunity to do zip, zilch, zero !!

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
