OTHER NEWS:

1. World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), owners of the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Series, have announced modifications to several rules and regulations relating to the swim at U.S. races. Effective September 1, 2010, which is the start of Ironman’s 2011 competition season, new rules for apparel and wetsuits will apply at all Ironman and 70.3 events in the U.S., including both World Championships. The amendments were made to further standardize rules in the Ironman/70.3 Series and ensure a fair playing field at events around the globe.
The changes will include the following:

Swimwear and swim apparel must be comprised of 100 percent textile material, such as nylon or lycra, and may not include rubberized material such as polyurethane or neoprene. Swimwear may not cover the neck or extend past the shoulders or knees. Swimwear may contain a zipper. A race kit or trisuit may be worn underneath swimwear.
Wetsuits cannot measure more than 5 millimetres thick.
Wetsuits may be worn in water temperatures up to and including 24.5 degrees Celsius/76.1 degrees Fahrenheit. Athletes who choose to wear a wetsuit in water temperatures exceeding 24.5 degrees C /76.1 degrees F will not be eligible for awards, including World Championship slots. Wetsuits will be prohibited in water temperatures greater than 28.8 degrees C/84 degrees F.
“Ironman recognizes the importance of showcasing the competitive element at all events. We believe these amendments place more emphasis on performance and function and less on technology, therefore staying true with the Ironman spirit,” says Ironman’s Head of Officials, Jimmy Riccitello.

Ironman’s rule changes are consistent with rule changes adopted by swimming and triathlon’s international governing bodies, FINA and ITU, respectively.

3. Congratulations to Heath Porter, Jason Jones and Chad Anderson. The guys were announced in Triathlon Australia's 2010 age group team for ITU World Triathlon Championships which take place in Budapest early in September. Watch for them to be training the house down over the coming months.

4. Heading for Singapore? You may be interested in one of the events in the Singapore Sprint Series. Further info: www.singaporesprintseries.com

5. Bali International Triathlon numbers are way up on last year. The introduction of the additional sprint distance event as well as the usual fun run make it an even better real destination event.

6. Anyone heading over to Kununurra for the tri there?

Busy, busy ....
Cheers,
Robyn

Photo: Swim start Ray White Darwin NT Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships

Hi All,

Absolutely brilliant conditions for the RAY WHITE DARWIN NT Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships (Race 3 Sprint Series) at Lake Alexander yesterday.

Our thanks to Race Director Craig Garland and the many volunteers who ensured the event ran very smoothly. Also great to see so many spectators come down & how good was it that they encouraged all competitors throughout the morning & many helped out as well.

Most pleasing to report that drafting was pretty much non existent yesterday. We did hammer the rules over the past fortnight and that, together with a draft zone demo during the race brief as well as a draft official out on the course obviously got the message across. Pat on the back for all competitors.

We would like to acknowledge and thank RAY WHITE DARWIN again for their generous sponsorship of this event.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Media Hound: 1. Ali Croser has her name in lights in the latest TMSM for making Top 10 in the female field at IM China; 2 See NT News article pdf attached; 3 Some of our members are mentioned in the latest edition of Australian Triathlete.

2. Latest to have a run in with the infamous Waterfront Lagoon fish was Anthony Beven. He says it's about 60 cms long and about 25 cms high and more playful than aggressive.

3. More on the wheelbarrow pushing guy: he does it most days and also rides his bike on the same day. He swims laps and does boxing classes and he can also be seen most days in his driveway, skipping. He ran from Noonamah to town a few weeks ago - just for fun! Sounds like a triathlete waiting to happen. Someone give him our website address.

4. Sophie Hawken is back into training albeit only 1 hour a day. Like all new mum's, Soph is finding it very hard with a little man to look after full time.

5. While on new mum's, it was good to see Rosie Sullivan out running in a team yesterday. Also to see our Equipment Officer, Simon Jeggo, flying past on the bike. He was the swimmer/rider for the same team !

6. Some "old" faces in the competitor list yesterday. Andrew Simpson was back in Darwin and took the opportunity to have a hit out with his old club.... and still has what it takes ! Steve Denton was back in town from Indonesia and also came down to race.

7. If you are anywhere near Alice Springs on Monday 26 April 2010, don't forget that Alice Springs Triathlon Club are conducting the 2010 Alice Ultra which is dedicated to the late Tavis Johanssen. The Ultra competitors get underway at 5.30am. Two other distances are also on offer. Further info from Dean 0437 371 654. Organisers would love to see you there.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you always head for the same rack spot at Lake Alex
... you still have number outlines on your arms
... you just checked to see if you still have numbers on your arms

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
