Hi All,

While we are all enjoying lots of exciting event opportunities, planning for our club's next season has been in full swing.

Our president John Thyne, in consultation with the committee and interested members, has been beavering away to put together an exciting calendar of events for 2010/2011.

Now it's your turn.

Please see the draft calendar for next year attached. For these races to happen we need volunteers to take on the key roles of Race Director, Registration, Time Keeping and Fruit and Ice.
Here is your chance to pick the events and dates you would like to volunteer for. Email John Thyne on john.thyne@ntairports.com.au with your requests.

Remember if you are a Race Director or Time Keeper, you will be given points towards the age group pointscore to compensate you for not being able to race.

Please get back to John by 5pm Friday 11 June. Following that date the committee will make an allocation of members to carry out any remaining tasks.

Our club is proud of its volunteering culture and that we are able to bring our members quality events for extremely reasonable event fees. Your assistance in maintaining this tradition is appreciated. Please now bombard John with the dates and duties you are happy to volunteer for.

SAFETY WARNING:

If you are riding out Lee Point way please take extra care. The bottom carpark has been resurfaced and there is lots of loose gravel. I was forewarned & survived but to the unsuspecting it could be lethal.

OTHER NEWS:

1. IM Japan (13 June) attracted a record 1250 competitors and closed early this year. On Monday organisers had to make the heartbreaking decision to cancel the event due to an outbreak of highly contagious foot and mouth disease. They are looking into refunding athletes, but this will take some time to work through. Some very, very disappointed triathletes at the moment.

2. Noosa Triathlon entry was supposed to open 9am yesterday. An IT clitch had 100s of frustrated athletes banging the keys of their computers for a few hours before USM announced the problem and suspended entry. They will try again later.

3. Members may be interested on commenting on the development of the Howard Springs Reserve in a short online survey. The club would be very interested in reconstituting swimming in the pond and the mtb & running tracks. The more persons/organisations fill out the community survey the better http://www.nt.gov.au/nreta/parks/manage/community/

4. Darwin Cycling Club advise that Cycling Australia has confirmed that non-CA members can race in this years Top End Tour if they complete a Day Racing Permit Form and payment of $40.00, the permit will cover the three day event. The registration period has been extended for another 24 hours to Thursday morning 3 June. They are asking for anyone interested to enter now before registration closes and say it would be unfortunate to cancel the Top End Tour! They have only 15 confirmed riders, and need at least 30 riders for the event to go ahead. See www.darwin.cycling.org.au

5. News filtering through from the Katherine Ultra Challenge that the swim leg will take place at Copperfield Dam on day prior. Swim time differences would be used to start the xcountry run. Please watch the event website for details.

6. Good luck to all those taking part in the City2Surf.

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn

OTHER NEWS:

1. Media Hound: Jason Jones made the social pages in Sunday Territorian and junior sponsor, Mitch from NT Elite Cycles, got a mention in Letters to the Editor of NT News during the week.

2. Eight pros and one age group athlete went under four hours at Ironman 70.3 Austria.

3. Weekend form guide: Sandra Yee was spotted out running; John Thyne is galloping well and looking very lean; Sue Parora is recovering from the bug that kept her out of the Olympic Distance race; Vicki Woodrow appears to have rediscovered her running legs; Alan Culbertson is also continuing to stride well; and wow there are a lot of people in very good form ! Must be the time of year.

4. Belinda Birk, Bertram Birk, Jane Marie Kerslake and Emma Winterflood head for the Big Island today. They are competing at Ironman 70.3 Hawaii this weekend.

5. City2Surf excitement is building. Many of our members are taking part.

6. Preparations are gearing up for our NT Long Course Triathlon on 15 August 2010 at Lake Bennett Resort. Mark that one as a must do on your calendars!

7. There are still some members out there yet to make arrangements to collect their uniform orders. Email please to arrange pick up.

8. Feedback on new uniform has been very positive. The new tri fatigue shorts and the women's 2 piece are the big winners!

9. A big fish at the waterfront lagoon is still causing some grief with swimmers.

10. Lake Alexander was getting a good flush with some extra pumping equipment over the weekend. DCC will advise when the Lake is reopening for swimming.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you know to pull your wetsuit several inches up your arms and legs.
... you clean your bike more often than you clean your car
... you feel like you have had a day off because all you did was swim 3000m

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
