Robyn's E News 24 Nov 10

Hi All,

Members will have received an email direct from Triathlon Australia regarding ITU Member-only entry applications for the age-group race to be held in conjunction with the Dextro Energy ITU World Championship race in Sydney. This opens at 9.00am (Australian eastern daylight saving time) today and you will also have now received another email detailing the link.

Didn't get the emails? That would be because you selected not to receive communication when you completed your online membership.

Note:

1. We traditionally see lots of reindeer antlers, Santa beards, tinsel etc donned for the run, at this our last event for the year.
2. It is suggested that seniors train hard as this event is followed by our junior/senior teams event ... and those kids go full on !

COMMITTEE NEWS:

1. OCHRE CARD: We would like to encourage all our volunteers who are involved with juniors to apply early for the new Ochre Card. Further information www.workingwithchildren.nt.gov.au

2. POLICY REGARDING NON MEMBERS PARTICIPATING AT CLUB EVENTS: Persons wishing to "try" a tri are encouraged to do so. Darwin Triathlon Club welcome those people via our One Day option. Please note this option may be used twice only after which you must be a full member to participate. A list is kept so please don't be offended if you turn up a third time and aren't permitted to race.

3. ONE DAY MEMBER FEE INCREASE: The fee for one day participants will increase to $30 from 1 January 2010.

4. VISITORS: Interstate visitors & members of other NT Tri clubs who are current Triathlon Australia members are warmly welcomed at our club events and are able to participate (at member rate) on production of their TA card.

4. ARAFURA GAMES TRIATHLON: FYI there is no one day option for the Arafura Games Triathlon. It is a condition of entry that all Australian participants are members of Triathlon Australia (DTC members note this is included in your annual club membership fee).

5. MEMBERSHIP FEES: Once the calendar ticks over to January we are often asked if our membership fees reduce because the year is half over. The short answer is NO. Darwin Triathlon Club offer members a huge range of events & activities across the whole year and the insurance and affiliation fees make up the largest portion of the fee and have to be paid regardless of time of year.

OTHER NEWS:

1. President Phill Hatty and better half Shaye, are heading for Phuket where they will participate in the Laguna Phuket Triathlon this weekend. It's a 1.8km swim, 55km bike, 12km run distance and Shaye is talking up her chances of being higher up the results list than Phill ! Good luck to both.

2. Lance Armstrong has announced he will be participating in a triathlon in NZ in the New Year. Amazingly enough it's not at an M Dot event, he's starting small !

3. Did you get your entry in for Challenge Cairns? I haven't heard that it filled.

4. I've had a few enquiries about club trisuits. We don't have any in stock. I have a couple of medium men's tri tops and a women's small tri top ($65). Also one pair of ladies medium 2 piece bathers ($55). Email if you are interested.

5. Your best option for trisuits is to ring your local bike store or shop online. Word of advice, take your measurements carefully and check against the manufacturers size chart. Tri suits aren't the sort of thing you can say "I always take medium" and hope for the best.

6. We may look at a further club uniform order in the New Year providing there is enough interest as minimum numbers are required.

7. Racing away and need a race belt? Please email if you haven't received one before as I still have a few Scody racebelts available for members at no cost.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... you still have your first IM finishers towel in pristine condition
... you know not to wear light coloured bathers to Lake Alexander
... fixomull is your friend

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn

Hi All,

Our Splash N Dash at Lake Alexander attracted a large crowd and went off really well. Race Director Phil Brownscombe treated us to a figure of eight transition which worked a treat. A huge thank you to Phil and to all the other volunteers who assisted with putting this event together and ensured it all ran smoothly.

A big welcome to all our new members. Their enthusiasm rubs off. We hope you have all been made to feel very welcome. I'm sure you will be glad you joined up ... we have a long history of ensuring new members enjoy having three times the fun.

Joining is easy online at https://www.securedvirtualnet.com/Sma/Triath/ . 2010/2011 membership is a mere $110 for seniors and $40 for juniors.
A family membership (2 adults, 2 children) is $220.

And no, it doesn't cost less next year. We have so many events & activities happening we think joining DTC is great value whatever time of year you join. Where else do you get to tri for $5 ... your fellow triathletes around Australia think nothing of paying $70 - $100 + .... and that's for each race !!

OTHER NEWS:

1. Online registrations for 2011 Ironman 70.3 Busselton will open at 9.00am (Western Australian Time) on Monday 22 November, 2010 through the online entry system at www.busseltonhalf.com . 1400 individual and 250 team entries will be allocated for the 2011 event.

2. The Tiger Brennan Drive Family Fun Run/Walk is on Sunday 28 November 2010. Pre-registration is required at www.growingnt.nt.gov.au

3. The team of Simon Cruickshank, Mark Anzin & Phil Brownscombe head down to Canberra this weekend for the AROC Paddy Pallin Adventure Race. The classic course is approx. 10km on foot, 20km mtb and 5km paddling. If completed in a certain time, competitors can move onto the advanced course ... more of the same. Good luck guys !

4. Stu Fitch was in a team at the Sri Chinmoy Triple Team (also in Canberra) at the weekend. They were 6th team overall and first in the 50+ team category. Stu did the 3.5km swim in 47.50 and the 12km run in 57.45.

5. Jac Crofton's new TT bike created a stir at the Splash N Dash on Friday.

6. Before leaving a race venue always check you have all your gear. So many things get left behind it's only a matter of time before someone loses something important. Besides, it's a big ask to expect someone to have your stinky shoes or singlet at their place until you wake up to the fact that they are missing.

7. Racing may have been over and done with Friday evening but Darwin was crawling with people out training over the weekend.

8. Weekend form guide: Shaye Hatty spent her birthday morning spinning her legs over in preparation for the Laguna Phuket Tri next weekend; Sue Parora was spotted in perfect time trial position on Dick Ward Drive; Tony West may be on the comeback trail as he was seen jogging comfortably at Fannie Bay; Simon Cruickshank had the wheels on the Time machine spinning; Bec Thyne was spotted getting some secret bike time in; Alex Moraitis is back (in Darwin and on the bike); Col Smith and Karen Wilson were keeping each other honest in a swim, bike brick; Steve Goat had a final hit out for Ironman WA and is looking great; and that's not counting those doing extra swimming and training tri's ... phew ... it's all go in tri land !

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... you think it's hardly worth dirtying your training gear for an 8km run in a recovery week.
... you look up the yellow pages in each place you visit to see if they have any bike shops catering for triathletes
... you are still convinced that if you rest more than one day, your muscles will atrophy, your super-fit body will turn into a pile of mush and everyone in your age group will beat you.

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
