Photo: Start time Christmas Splash N Dash

Hi All,

Friday evening’s Christmas Splash N Dash was a huge success, weather & attendance wise ! We certainly had an increase in the number of Santas racing, the reindeers were also very active and tinsel was sparkling ! Great touch with the finish line lolly bags don’t you think?

A huge thank you to Rob Weatherald who puts his very individual stamp on this event each year and who had the seniors and the juniors hopping ! Thanks also to junior coordinator Jason Jones who assisted Robbie and also to our many volunteers who helped make the event a successful end of year outing.

President Phil Hatty and your Darwin Triathlon Club committee would like to thank all members, from the youngest to oldest who have raced this year, all our wonderful volunteers who have given of their time, our coaches who have continued to assist members to achieve their goals and our sponsors who have contributed to our events … together we have had another fantastic year of triathlon and we look forward to bringing our members more of the same in 2012.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year !. Stay safe out there on the roads if you are driving or riding and we will see you all again at our first event for 2012 – Race 1 of our Aquathlon Series at Nightcliff Pool.

Robyn's E News 12 December 2011

Hi All,

A quick glance at the results below speaks volumes – Darwin Triathlon Club members have been active here at home as well as all around Australia and overseas doing what they do best – swim, bike, run and having fun !

I hear the Splash N Dash at Lake Alex went well. Thanks to RD Chris Jessop for his efforts with this event. Chris also had a work Xmas function to attend that evening, so we doubly appreciate his volunteering. Chris was assisted by others on roster and many who just put up their hand to help on the day. Charlie Birk again provided water safety and his willingness to assist at many of our recent events is much appreciated.

We rely solely on volunteer effort to bring our members the many events on our calendar. It is difficult to name them all, so we don’t attempt to but please know, that as a volunteer, your contribution is highly valued !

OTHER NEWS:

1. Good news from Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships with Kylie Gaffel & yours truly securing slots for 2012 Ironman World Championships in Hawaii next October.

2. And Jac Crofton took a slot for IM 70.3 World Champs in Las Vegas (Sept) with her 3rd place in Canberra 70.3 yesterday.

3. The weather has again played havoc with races. The bike course for IM 70.3 Asia Pacific is a real tough ask but when the heavens opened and it bucketed cats and dogs it became heart in mouth stuff, especially on the very steep descents. As well, one section of the road completely disappeared underwater – exhilarating stuff !

4. Those in Canberra 70.3 also copped some storm activity in the swim and bike and in Melbourne, the Elwood race swim was replaced by a run after torrential overnight rain made the swim unsafe.

5. 2012 IM WA sold out in an hour.

6. Ironman 70.3 Singapore is one of the few races that actually publish its entry list live. Currently sitting at 860, this traditionally fills up over Christmas/New Year so if you are thinking about it, I’d suggest you get your entry in soon.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you can travel overseas with a bike box & back pack & survive for a week (relying on event finish shirt for a change of clothes)

… you know more names of Hawaii Ironman winners than Australian Prime Ministers

...you say encouraging words when you pass someone on the run (it's a kind of unwritten bond that says we're all in this race together)

Safe Training,

Cheers,

Robyn

Hi All,

It’s crazy time again. From the frantic shopping taking place and the dashing around to various functions by many of us, one would think Christmas is next week. But no, it’s November last time I looked & we still have two events before Santa comes. !

Our next event is at Lake Alexander this Friday evening and is the second of our wet season Splash N Dashes. A reminder that the distance for this event has been shortened to a very doable and enjoyable 300m swim, 2km run x 2 instead of the x3 originally listed. Teams welcome.

Photo: Belinda leads competitors to the start of Splash N Dash #1 at the Waterfront

Hi All,

Friday night Splash n Dash at the Waterfront was another huge success in more ways than one. We had an enormous turnout of competitors and almost as many come down to watch, help out or just take the opportunity to catch up.

Another highlight was that our female competitors outnumbered the guys!!! And given our Race Director was Belinda Birk it was a wonderful showcase of girl power!

Our thanks to Belinda for the many hours of preparation put into this event. The waterfront venue throws up a few more than usual challenges for RD’s and Belinda handled them all on our behalf.

Bin had a fantastic crew of helpers assisting on the evening and we sincerely thank you all for your efforts. We would also like to thank Trampoline, Wildburger, PowerWater and the Waterfront for their support of our event. The location also meant competitors got plenty of encouragement from Waterfront patrons enjoying a coldie and/or dinner after work. Great location, great atmosphere !

3. Please email if you would be interested in purchasing. If numbers are close to those required for minimum order, I will open an online order for payments and place another order.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Oops, a couple of guys were bare chested on Friday evening. One is new to sport so can be forgiven. Rules of our sport are that torsos must be covered during bike and run and that includes aquathlons. You have been reminded so Bare chest = DQ from here on in.

2. “Four great steps to getting that perfect triathlon butt” sounds like riveting reading.

3. Both the male and female winner of yesterday’s Sri Chinmoy Triple Tri are former members of Darwin Triathlon Club, obviously retaining some territory toughness (even though it was pretty cool in Canberra) !

4. Heavy rain in Melbourne on Saturday night caused the cancellation of the swim in Race 1 of their Gatorade Series.

5. If you have any historical photos of the club’s past activities/highlights and are happy to share, please scan and email to darwintriclub89@bigpond.com with a brief description (who, what, where, distance etc).

6. Clinton Luxford was in action at the Murray Man triathlon results yet to come. Kylie Gaffel did the 3.5km swim in a Triple Tri team in Canberra.

7. While the Waterfront fish obviously thought the better of getting amongst a “school” of triathletes on Friday, earlier that evening they drove Sue Parora from the water with their unwanted attention. Perhaps it’s time to call for another fishing competition down there.

8. Lucy Thompson, Belinda Holt, Emma Winterflood and Tara Worby were among those juggling bubs to take part on Friday evening.

9. Not a member but want to participate? Online membership link at www.triathlonnt.com.au Please bring copy of membership receipt or your card to registration. Junior membership (under 18) $45; Senior (18+) $120; Family (2 adults & up to 2 juniors) $235.

10. Know someone who keeps talking about taking up the sport? Perhaps consider club membership as a Christmas or birthday gift with a difference.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… your have already taken your significant other to the bike shop and pointed out “go faster” items you would like (Xmas hint)

JUNIOR REPORT:

1. The juniors had an enthusiastic turnout for their event at Lake Alexander yesterday. Junior coordinator Jason Jones says the young ones got to watch the raw talent and speed of Joshua White and Hamish Wiltshire battling it out right from the start in the seniors race. The sub juniors and juniors then put in spirited efforts to complete their events.

2. A mixed team event was the finish of the morning with everyone finding that little bit extra for their team mates.

3. A big thank you to all parents, who were more than willing to wear a flouro vest and help marshall the kids. Your assistance is much appreciated.

4. Thanks also to John Thyne who again put everyone through a rigorous pre race workout and gave an insight into his quick transition skills.

5. And a big thank you to Belinda Brearley, awesome buoy placer and provider of water safety for all our junior competitors.

6. Next junior event is an Aquathlon at Nightcliff Pool Sunday 27th November 2011. No bikes needed for this one!!!

2. Items for next E News by 8pm tomorrow please.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Seems there was some confusion at IM 70.3 Shepparton with some of the leading men following the lead car (which apparently doesn’t go through to the final roundabout) and turning too early which resulted in penalties. This is a timely reminder that it is the athlete’s responsibility to know the course.

2. Club president Phill Hatty was discharged from hospital on Friday but is on waiting list for readmission for more medical tests. The medical roundabout can be frustrating for triathletes who are used to getting things done and I’m sure Phill is no exception! Phill was thinking he would be in the recovery tent by Friday, instead he finds himself stuck in T2 !

3. Club Secretary Graeme Parsons is currently in Sumbawa and is hoping the monkeys don’t take off with his running shoes. He has found a pool but is yet to source wheels.

4. Those attending the swim, run training and info sessions with John Thyne are finding them very informative and helpful. The final session is tomorrow (Tuesday 15th) at Casuarina Pool 6-7pm. This is an ideal opportunity to learn swim/run skills and to brush up on transitions. If you (or someone you know) would like to attend the final session tomorrow, please contact John on 0423 797 401 and let him know you are coming. Cost is entry to Casuarina Pool plus $3 to coach.

5. Lots of tri & other action out at Lake Bennett at the weekend where many of our members were at a training camp with coach Daryl Stanley. On the way into Lake B, Dale Berk attempted a bit of snake rescue when he spotted a very large python curled up on the road. Turns out he was one angry python with his tail a bit squished and wasn’t happy that Berky was being helpful. With lots of hissing and spitting he strongly resisted attempts to be moved off the road ! It must have finally moved as there was no evidence next morning.

6. The inaugural MetaMan Bintan, Iron Distance Southeast Asia Championship, will take place on 15 September 2012 on the Indonesian island of Bintan.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …
… you are on a flight and your only check in baggage is a bike box
…you ride your bike to the start of a local 10k because you need a good warm up
… when someone asks how long it takes to get to your house, your response is: “running or by bike?”.

Hi All,

Another big weekend of training and racing is coming up. Ironman 70.3 Shepparton is on this weekend (good luck to our members competing there) and Ironman WA, Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships & Ironman 70.3 Canberra are all fast approaching. Darwin is well represented on the start lists of those major events, as well as many others being held around the country over the next couple of months. So it’s all go in tri land !

We take this opportunity to extend our best wishes to club president Phill Hatty who is currently winging his way to Melbourne via air ambulance. Phill had a health scare on Sunday afternoon and was admitted to RDH. He is feeling fine now, but is required to have further specialist treatment this week. Phill is disappointed to be missing Shep this weekend and we are hoping he will be back on deck & home in Darwin real soon.

1. So if they didn’t have a swim at ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships how did they manage the start? They put all the triathletes in a big warm, but stinky tent, then pulled them out age group by age group, and had them line up on the bikes and leave on 5 second intervals.

2. We only have a few club shirts left. Get in quick if you want one.

3. Hopefully you have passed on details of the novice sessions advertised in our last E News. They will be a great opportunity for anyone you know who is expressing interest in taking up our sport or joining the club.

4. For our newer members, a reminder that the TA website contains lots of interesting and informative information. Check it out at www.triathlon.org.au

5. There is a cold/flu thing making the rounds at the moment. A couple of our juniors had it prior to their tour and another has been unwell since. A few of our seniors also have been laid low.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN…

… you really enjoy hearing NTFs (non-tri-friends) say ‘Are you insane?’, when you talk about doing an Ironman
… your significant other knows when you haven’t been training because of your lousy mood.

... you move from a one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom just so you can have a place to store all your training equipment

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn

Photo: Enduro start - wave 1 underway

Hi All,

We had an awesome turnout for our Enduro event at Lake Alexander yesterday morning. Thanks to Race Director Bertram Birk for his efforts in bringing this race together. Although it appeared effortless, there was a great deal of behind the scenes prior planning, (including a venue change). Bertram was assisted by many volunteers on the day and we would also like to thank them for their efforts.

Our events depend on the contribution of our members (and often their family & friends) and we really appreciate their willingness to help out, particularly on race day.

While we were enjoying the Enduro mayhem, our juniors were in action in Queensland. All reports have the kids doing us proud and really stepping up this year. Heard they looked great in their club shirts and tri gear as well. Their results aren’t available until mid week.

4. Items for next E News by 8pm tomorrow please.

OTHER NEWS:

1. The swim portion of ITU Long Distance World Championships in Nevada at the weekend, had to be cancelled due to unsafe water conditions. Read 17 degree water temp and heavy rain prior mucking with water quality.

2. Nature also wrecked havoc at the ITU World Cup event in Columbia. Massive mud slides in Guatape saw the event shortened to a sprint distance.

3. WTC has announced a shake up of their Lottery slot policy. Further details www.ironman.com

4. Members Cate and Sean Killiner recently recommenced training after some time away. They have had two swims at the Lagoon at the Waterfront in the last week or so and been ‘attacked’ by the dreaded fish on both occasions.

Last week was particularly bad. It seemed to them that there were two fish, and while one was at Cate the other was having a go at Sean. The one that chased him appeared to be a queen fish around two foot long. It seems like they are very territorial as they wouldn’t let up and virtually harassed both of them from the rock wall all the way back to the beach – got the heart rate up!!

5. I debated the wisdom of adding the above to the E News given our next event will be at the Waterfront location. But then, the same thing was happening before our last hit out there & on the day no one had any trouble at all …. there’s safety in numbers & as our numbers have been huge I think it will be the fish that will be looking for an out of the way place to hide !!

6. Remember the mention in previous E News of the little Panasonic robot undertaking the Hawaii Ironman course? Well EVOLTA has made it … & conquered Kona in 166 hours 56 mins. !

7. You were warned … that the Enduro was also an exercise in brain gym ! We had people donning goggles when they should have been running, swimming in the wrong order, shoes still on heading for the swim, helmet undone before racking, half laps on the bike, etc etc. All good fun and rectified on the go !

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you are a bloke and you start to think seriously about the merits of shaving your legs

… you are a bloke and you have ditched shaving your legs for regular waxing

… you start talking about an easy hour swim, an easy three hour ride or an easy 10 km run

OTHER NEWS:

1. Condolences to the family of Brian Barr (64), age group legend, who passed away on Monday in Qld after a short illness. Brian is known to many of our members.

His achievements at Kona and ITU Worlds over many years were amazing. In 2005, Brian then M55-59, tackled the double, ITU OD Worlds in Honolulu (2nd) and a week later did Kona where he was 2nd in 10.24.48.

Noosa & Mooloolaba tris were in his backyard but sadly, Brian was missing from Noosa results on Sunday. Last year he blitzed his M60-64 age group in 2.16.31. Even knowing his condition, he had entered Mooloolaba next year.

2. DCC is seeking people interested in being trained by AustCycle to conduct the program in the HCI target populations. If you are interested in becoming a Teacher or Provider, would like further information on the AustCycle program or have any further queries, please contact Amber (Healthy Communities Coordinator) at DCC on 8930 0632

3. The juniors heading to Queensland this weekend to compete in the Qld All Schools Triathlon finalised their preparations with a zippy transition training session last night. Wow, those kids can move !

4. Our new tri suits look fantastic. Once you do the normal “wiggle” to get them on, they are very comfy.

5. Some of our members training on the bike & heading for the Gorge at Katherine at the weekend had a close encounter & a huge adrenalin rush when a bunch (herd, mob, ?) of buffalo crashed through a fence near them (in the dark).

6. Bali International Triathlon date has been confirmed as 24 June 2012.

7. 2011 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships are on this weekend at Henderson, Nevada (USA). Our elite team consists of Craig Alexander, David Dellow, Rebekah Keat, Nikki butterfield and Christine Hemphill. Course distance 4km swim, 120km bike, 30km run. Our recent Finlay’s NT Long Course Triathlon was a selection points event for TA’s Age Group Team for LD Worlds in Spain next year. If you are interested in making the age group team see further info at www.triathlon.org.au

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you can’t remember the last time you had all your toe-nails, and you’ve actually grown fond of the alternating blue/black and white/pink
pattern on alternate toes

… you’re either training, just finished training, tired from training, or planning your next training session

… the amount of time training that you thought was insanely too much prior to being a triathlete is only a fraction of the time you now spend on an easy day

Safe Training,
Cheers,

Hi All,

Email is great …. most of the time ! Some of you didn’t receive our last E News due to the size of the attachments. Many servers rejected the email altogether, apologies to those who missed out. The attachments were details of road works in progress on Channel Island Road.

The weekend saw many of our members taking on the Noosa Tri while those still at home were out & about training. It was great the rain held off on Saturday morning and long rides could be done. Those heading for Shepparton 70.3, IM WA, Phuket 70.3 etc are all out there training the house down.

Our very popular Enduro event takes place this weekend. It’s fast, it’s furious and it’s fun and very much anticipated. With the wet season kicking in, this is also our last triathlon format event for awhile. After this weekend we change to swim/run combos that have everyone on their toes during the wet.

JUNIORS:

1. Juniors attending the tri skills session at Nightcliff Pool on Saturday evening were very enthusiastic, as were John Thyne and Lee Wilson who took them through numerous activities. I think the kids skill levels were improving on the spot but they were enjoying themselves so much they didn’t even notice they were learning so much from the guys. Thanks to John and Lee & all volunteers for their assistance.

2. Our DTC junior tour happens this weekend. The juniors head for Queensland to take part in the Qld All Schools Triathlon. Please wish Mitch Ward, Lara Whitehouse, Louise Jettner, Joseph White, Connor McLeod, Bella Hatty and Ari McInerney good luck if you see them this week.

OTHER NEWS:

1. My take on cycling in Darwin drew a lot of response. Rose, for example, had just dodged a ride on mower that turned on the path in front of her and suggested that be added to the list. It also prompted Vicki to provide a similar list of her experiences of riding “down south” …

Mad, erratic drivers; swooping magpies; road rage; pot holes; cycle lanes that just disappear into the main lane of a major highway; swooping, aggressive (& making) contact magpies; cold/numb feet; a howling head wind; a howling cross wind; a constant running nose; freezing hands -no matter what gloves you use; cold rain +wind; watering eyes (due to the wind); looking like a @#!^ head with lots of weird cable ties sticking out your helmet to ward off magpies; but you know what ... not much broken glass !!

2. Jason Jones had his helmet pinched from transition at Noosa yesterday. He set up, went over to help Kirrily, came back and it was gone!

You can imagine lots of swearing !! That is just low and so against the spirit of triathlon !

3. Congrats to those who pb’d at Noosa yesterday and big congrats to those doing their first ever OD event.

4. Looking at Dean Nankivell’s splits, thinking he has had mechanical problems during the bike leg.

5. Now the hard part, those on Qantas flights are still stranded in Brisbane.

6. Junior calendar & updated senior roster are now up on the website. So are splits from our last event. Thanks Al.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ..

… if a parent, you occasionally bring your kid(s) with a colouring book to the pool or to running while you train. In extreme cases, you have them
time your intervals and yell out splits

… you have memorized the names and performance histories of the half-dozen or so people just ahead and just behind you in your age group in your area. When someone passes you whom you haven’t “scouted”, you make it a point to interrogate (uh, “chat”) with them after the race.

… your work colleagues frequently introduce you to clients or new people in the office as “the guy/gal who does triathlons”.

Hi All,

Loving the storms ~If you haven’t experienced training in a Darwin wet season before, you are in for a treat ! Just be prepared to be wet, wet, wet and make sure you have plenty of shoes as they take a bit to dry, even under a fan.

With the recent spate of storm activity, most of us are now back to checking the BOM before heading out for training. Running in the rain (read cool) is a favourite activity at the moment.

ROAD TO AUCKLAND:

This summer, Canberra is on the path to Auckland! Triathlon ACT is providing great opportunities this summer to competitors aiming for ITU Age Group World Championships selection in both Sprint and Olympic Distance. So if you have not yet entered, check out the following races:

1. Canberra Olympic Triathlon – 18th December 2011
The first of the qualifying races for the Age Group Olympic Distance World Championships will take place in the Australian Capital Territory on the 18th of December. This race offers great opportunities for people trying to qualify for the 2012 Australian Age Group Olympic Distance Team. Competing in the first race will give you an early advantage in setting your strategy for the season.
More details here.

2. Australian Sprint Distance Triathlon – 29th January 2012
Triathlon ACT is hosting the Australian Sprint Distance Championships in Canberra on the 29th of January. This race offers double points for selection into the 2012 Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Team!
More details here.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Emma Snowsill has withdrawn from Noosa but both the men’s and women’s elite field remains star studded. The list reads like a Who’s Who of triathlon.

2. If you are heading out to Channel Island for a ride please be aware that there is some road work happening on Channel Island Road.

One site near the new Detention Centre is in full swing, with the road currently narrowed and the speed limited to 60km/hr. The second site where work has already started is the intersection with Jenkins road. Stage 2 of project (Channel Island Road tie-in) will commence soon. (See attached diagrams for more information).

3. There has been a flurry of cyclist v motorist letters to the editor this week, generated by a recent NT News article. It would pay to be very vigilant out there for awhile and to make sure you are cycling within the law.

4. The two idiots I saw last night cycling full pelt through Parap, two abreast, no helmets and no lights are lucky to be alive (no accident reports so I assume they reached were ever they were going in such a hurry). No lycra was involved, but no wonder some cyclists antagonise motorists.

5. I thought I would share with you my take on cycling in Darwin: Broken glass; Nest protecting plovers; Dogs on the loose; Broken glass; Non functioning water bubblers; Monitor lizards; Broken glass; Long grassers asleep on the bike path; Aggressive Darwin Bus drivers; Broken glass; Potholes; Road trains; Broken glass; Snakes; Low flying bush turkeys; Broken glass; Flocks of cockatoos; Dry season burn off smoke; Broken glass; Mosquitos; Midges; Broken glass; Sunburn; Intoxicated long grassers; Broken glass; blokes in utes; dogs barking near your ear; Broken glass.

6. Christmas is coming (very quickly). Our bike shops have lots of go faster gear in stock now, so why not take advantage and get in early with your Christmas shopping. Support our sponsors as they support us.

7. Uniform order update – some items have arrived, just waiting delivery of final parcel.

8. Swim squad at Nightcliff Pool is noticing the benefits of the new shade cloth. The water temperature is a couple of degrees cooler than average (so far).

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

Hi All,

Mondayitis ? You are not alone. After another huge weekend it’s hard to get back into work mode.

Our triathlon at Lake Alexander yesterday was a huge success.

First up, a big thank you to RD Steve Goat and the wonderful volunteers who assisted with this event. Our events couldn’t happen without the efforts of all our volunteers and the assistance on race day of those on roster and those who just jump in and help is greatly appreciated.

We had another great start list and again welcomed more new members. In fact, there were so many of you, we started the event in two waves to ease congestion in the swim & I know many of you are hanging for the adjusted results so ….

OTHER NEWS:

1. Young Malo Gilly-Eydoux’s tri enthusiasm continues. He was 12th in the 7-9 years category of the Qld Gatorade Tri Series #1 Kool Kids event. Unfortunately Malo has since broken his arm which may set back his Noosa plans a little !

2. At a glittering ceremony last week, Greg Welch became the first Australian triathlete inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Read more here: http://hansonmediagroup.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1015&Itemid=36

3. It can be done - Finnbar Crennan (M40-44) completed the 2km swim, 120km bike, 20 km run Ultimate Triathlon (Forster, 16 Oct) in 5.00.45, ahead of the first placed Open male Newcastle’s Nathan Stewart who finished 5.05.45. Go the age groupers !!

4. The EVOLTA World Challenge IV starts tomorrow in Hawaii, USA. The robots are equipped with 3 different bodies (swim, bike, run) & are powered by 3 AA rechargeable batteries. The goal is for the robots to reach the finish line within one week (168 hrs) by covering the IM course (a total of 230 km). They have to be either moving forward or recharging ! Cute little things. They have already conquered the Grand Canyon on a pair of Panasonic AA dry batteries in 2008; tackled the Le Mans course and gained a Guinness World Record and last year completed a 500km walk from Tokyo to Kyoto on 12 AA rechargeable batteries. Google if you want to find out more.

5. Lance Armstrong struggled on the run at XTERRA Worlds this morning. Lance finished 15th (or 23rd depending on which report you read) after leaving T2 in 2nd.

6. We have a number of members heading over for Noosa this weekend including Leigh Milne, Juliette Neve, Kylie Gaffel, Thomas Parkinson, Glen Scholz, Jason Jones, Angelika Hannon & Brian Hannon. Dean Nankivell from Alice Springs is also heading over. Good luck to all, enjoy !

7. And no names but two guys went the wrong way on the run yesterday, oops.

8. Perhaps it’s mango madness … there were also a couple of people who forgot their helmets !

9. To end a big weekend, Fev thrilled a few of us yesterday arvo, France showed courage in the face of the haka but it didn’t help and Cold Chisel rocked some of us last night .

HOW CAN YOU HELP AT OUR EVENTS?

1. Even if you are not a rostered volunteer there are many small things that you can do that will assist at our events.

2. It’s a given that all participants help set up and pack away our equipment. Even if you only put one rack back in the trailer it helps. Ask the RD of the day if there are any buoys, witches hats or signs that you can help put out or pick up.

3. Please put any rubbish in a garbage bag. Can’t see a bag? They are kept in our race box near the registration table ~ feel free to get one out if needed.

4. Not competing? You can assist us by helping prepare post race refreshments (cut up fruit, ensure drinks are on ice etc).

5. One of the best ways to help is to ensure you are early to our events. Our registration volunteers are often competitors themselves and need to get registration closed on time so they can be ready to listen to the race brief as well.

6. If you have a particular skill that could be of benefit to our club, please feel free to chat to any of our committee or email darwintriclub89@bigpond.com

2. An owner has been found for the forlorn Nikes left in transition. It’s a good idea to do a final check before leaving after a race to ensure you haven’t left anything behind. It’s amazing what we forget at times!

3. The Crowie interviews post Hawaii show just what a fantastic ambassador for our sport he is.

4. Entries for Ironman 70.3 Busselton open at 10am (WST) on Wednesday 19th October 2011 for TWA/TA members. General public entries will open on Thursday 20th October at 10am (WST) if entries are still available. More info: www.busseltonhalf.com

8. Feeling a bit beat up and battered lately? The build up does that. Up those fluids.
9. Our club will be receiving a donation of $100 as two people nominated Darwin Triathlon Club in the recent Bike Count Tuesday. One was Leigh Milne, not sure of the other, was it you?. Many thanks.
