Update MTB Triathlon 11 Feb 2011

Hi All,

Following inspection of the course for the mountain bike triathlon there have been some changes made to ensure competitor safety.

Transition, start and finish lines will be located at the boat ramp side of Lake Alexander.

RD Aaron Caden asks for your assistance in keeping Colivas Road clear of traffic and suggests competitors use usual carparking and/or Alex Fong Lim Drive.

Competitors can then walk/ride round to transition. This will greatly assist with safety for the cycle and run legs.

Registration closes 5.15pm.

Course sounds exciting and a fun way to spend Saturday evening.

Be prepared to get muddy,
Robyn

Photo: Junior triathlon action at Lake Alexander yesterday

Hi All,

Those pesky computer gremlins have been at it, but the upside is that it prompted a big address book clean up !

Hopefully I've reloaded the correct email addresses for you all. My apologies if this is not the case ... please send through your preferred email address on which to receive E News and I'll change immediately.

My apologies also if you have received any spam which appears to have come from us ... even with the you beaut version of internet protection, these things occasionally happen.

You will notice the changed email address. It will help us keep you up to date if you add the new email darwintriclub89@bigpond.com to your address book.

The junior event at Lake Alexander yesterday went off extremely well. The kids are really enjoying the formats and getting better and better every time I see them. A huge thank you to our junior committee and the many volunteers who give up their time to assist with the junior events.

Photos from the junior race are up on Flickr.

1. Gatorade Portarlington, Vic, 2km run (800m swim replaced due to weather), 26km cycle, 8km run

POST RACE REFRESHMENTS:

1. You have to admit we look after our competitors & volunteers pretty well with our great post race refreshments courtesy of your event fee.

2. We don't even mind if spectators and/or their kids partake of any leftovers.

3. But .... we would like to request that those not competing (& kids) wait until the final competitor is in before helping themselves.

4. Thank you for understanding that our competitor needs are a priority.

SO YOU WANT TO VOLUNTEER:

1. Got a few minutes to spare after our events? Ask the race director if they would like help to pick up witches hats or signs. Or if you are hot and would like to cool down, see if you can assist with getting the buoys in.

WHO CAN COMPETE AT THE ARAFURA GAMES TRIATHLON:

There seems to be some misinformation circulating regarding the Arafura Games Triathlon.

All entry criteria & event information is posted to www.arafuragames.nt.gov.au .

Following a compete review of the Arafura Games in 2009 there have been a number of changes so I suggest you completely forget "how it always used to be". The changes include some for triathlon. Here's a brief summary about triathlon:

1. To compete in the Arafura Games triathlon all Australian participants are required to have TA membership (which you will have if you are a Darwin Triathlon Club member).

2. There is no adult team category at Arafura Games.

3. There is a youth teams category for those 14-19 years. Youth teams can be all male, all female or mixed. The Youth Team with the fastest time will be awarded the Arafura Games youth team medal.

4. Team competitors aged 14 and 15 are restricted to one leg (ie swim, or cycle, or run). Those 16-19 years can do two legs (eg swim & run, or swim & bike, or bike & run) if they wish.

5. Individual (1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run) competitors must be 16 years on race day.

6. The Arafura Games individual medal categories are 16-19; 20-24; 25-34 and 35+

7. Overall winners will be recognised by Triathlon NT after the Arafura Games medal ceremony.

8. Results will be used to determine NT Olympic Distance overall champions & age group champions.

9. Cut off times have been introduced.

10. Entry is free.

11. Triathlon NT EO will endorse triathlon entries from eligible athletes in bulk.

FOR SALE /WANTED ETC

1. FOR SALE: New men's Darwin Tri Club Trisuit (Medium), never worn, wrong size purchased. Offer. Contact Chris 0400 732 161

2. Items for next E News by 8pm tomorrow please.

OTHER NEWS:

1. The Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park has received the official nod as the triathlon location for the 2012 Olympics in London.

2. The accident involving the cyclist last week was noticed by more than just me. I'm reliably informed that the guy rode out onto the road without looking and the car couldn't stop in time. He had a really nasty hit to his head but could have been on his merry way with not much more than a bruised ego and a broken helmet...had he been wearing one. A reminder to all ... always wear your helmet.

3. And more on cycling. If you are up at the velodrome (and it has been pretty busy at times) please stay at the bottom if you are on effort or recovery laps. Those of you perching yourself on the blue line are endangering everyone by making passing slower cyclists a tricky manoeuvre for those overtaking. Those going up to do recovery laps (some without checking for anyone overtaking) are also making it very hazardous.

4. Entries for Arafura Games Triathlon are pouring in. Wouldn't it be great if we beat our 2005 record field? Hey, maybe we will even have to put out the full up sign early !

5. Chad Anderson has had his application for an Open Pro Lic approved by Triathlon Australia.

6. Nominations for the 2011 Age Group World Championships teams will close on: Sprint Distance Team: 18th April 2011 ; Olympic Distance Team: 18th April 2011; Long Distance: 16th May 2011; Duathlon: 18th April 2011. Selection criteria will be posted soon. I'll keep you informed.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you volunteer at races
... you find a long lost C02 canister and think it's your lucky day
... you have had enough of swim, run formats and can't wait for Race 1 of the Sprint Series to get here

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
