Photo: Kids in action at the junior Come & Try Day at Casuarina Pool

Hi All,

The Darwin Triathlon Club junior Come and Try Day was a huge success with kids enjoying a morning of varied activities (including a mini tri) at Casuarina Pool. It was a brilliant location to introduce the kids to our sport. A big thank you to John Thyne, Lee Wilson, Bec Thyne and all the volunteers who assisted with the morning.

It really does look like the juniors will be in for a fantastic season as well. The junior season kicks off on 2 October 2011 so get your kids signed up online now at www.triathlonnt.com.au

Our Family Membership option is great value ... mum, dad and two kids for $5 cheaper than the cost of two individual memberships. Those parents watching on the sidelines yesterday may like to consider a family membership package.

3. Photos from yesterday's junior Come & Try are up on Flickr now and a selection are also on our Facebook Page.

11. If you are interested in any of the above teams, check out the selection criteria & closing dates for nominations at www.triathlon.org.au

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... waking up at 5am to train seems the natural thing to do
... you can relate to those YouTube videos taking the mickey out of triathletes
... you feel a sense of loss when you finally consign those favourite tri tops to the bin (after all, you wore them at your best race)

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn

Robyn's E News 14 Sept 2011

Hi All,

It was somewhat of a shock to find the brrr factor had returned yesterday. I had white knuckles and chattering teeth by the time swim squad finished & didn't thaw out until mid morning .... and I know I wasn't alone ! I did pause to enjoy it though as it's already warming up again.

The juniors get to come out and play this weekend with their Come and Try Day happening on Sunday morning at Casuarina Pool (Registration [$5]opens 7.15am). We encourage those with kids to have them there & registered before 7.45am.

RESULTS:

1. Producing our club race results are a fantastic volunteer effort by a number of people.

2. You can help get them right by staying clear of the finish line once you have crossed. While it's great to warm down or go out and jog in with friends, please stay well clear of the finish line so that your number isn't recorded again.

3. Please don't approach the timekeepers for your times, they are still busy recording other finishers.

4. If you do not finish for some reason, please advise the timekeepers so they can make a note.

5. Notice an error in the results in E News? Please email darwintriclub89@bigpond.com and we will check it out before sheets get handed on for splits to be calculated.

6. Same goes for pointscore. Please advise any discrepancies. We do sometimes get the adds wrong & a regular audit eventually picks this up, but if you notice an error we would love to hear from you.

7. Your help is always appreciated.

OTHER NEWS:

1. The piece on our club history stirred some memories. Of those attending at Furlano's almost 20 years ago, some memories were romantic while for others it was recalling the pain of monumental hangovers !

2. We have just ticked over the 200 member mark !

3. Tour de Timor is underway with a number of our members taking part. We are hearing news that ranges from top 10 stage placings to others wondering what on earth they were thinking when they entered ! It's a tough event and this year stage cut off times are being more strictly applied. There will be some good stories around next week.

4. Fish stocks in Lake Alexander have diminished following our event on Sunday. When one of our ladies finally headed for the shower at home after the race, she was amazed when a small fish fell out of her tri top ! There is some speculation as to where it may have become lodged !!

5. Our Flickr page now has 7,738 photos and has recorded 72,197 views. Photos from Presentation Night and the Open Water Tri are up. Some from last weekend's event will be posted soon. You can view at http://www.flickr.com/photos/darwintriclub/

6. And for all those Facebook users out there we have a page to "Like" at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Darwin-Triathlon-Club/232422713443222
