Robyn's E News 23 January 2012

Hi All,

What an excellent turnout for Race 1 of our Aquathlon Series at Nightcliff Pool on Saturday evening!

97 of you participated in what turned out to be excellent conditions. Pleasing to again see that we had a huge number of women competing, continuing the trend set last year. Come on guys you are going to have to lift your game or you will soon be out numbered !

Our thanks go to Race Director Daryl Stanley for his efforts. Daryl measured the run course to pin point accuracy so if you thought you ran fast …. you certainly did ! Thanks also to our many wonderful volunteers (rostered on as well as those who just pitched in to help) who assisted Daryl to bring us this event. Your efforts were appreciated by all competitors and the many spectators who also attended.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Liked that many of you had read “Body Marking 101” - timekeepers work on Saturday was made a lot easier by very clear numbering. We started with “hand the pen to the next person” until Nic French jumped in and did a very professional job with the marker pens.

2. Thanks to those of you who presented your membership cards at rego table. That makes it very easy for our volunteers who may or may not know you or how to spell your name. Also makes registration line quicker for all.

3. Jac Crofton took a break from her IM NZ training to compete on Saturday. Winner of our Most Improved trophy last year, Jac is looking very fit as she enters the final weeks of the lead up to her target event.

4. We welcomed a number of new members and it was great to see their enthusiasm and their feedback on our event & the club was very positive.

5. Apologies to Matthew Scholar – a certain person on registration, who will remain nameless, inadvertently tried not once, but three times to convince him that he was someone else.

6. Heath Porter and Jason Jones are putting in the big k’s as they head towards Ironman Melbourne. Heath was looking in awesome form on Saturday but where was Jason ??? Explanations for his absence ranged from something about a big ride in the morning to being soft !

7. Brett Verity and Ali Fitch were the winners of our Australia Day Medals. Congrats to both.

8. Moira Wigley hopped off a plane after returning from hols in Japan and came straight down to compete. Now that’s keen!

9. Brett Verity and Tim Green were sporting “go faster haircuts”. As they finished 1st and 2nd we may see the style catch on for Race 2.

10. Uniform order closes tomorrow – don’t forget to get your order in online today here .

11. Sunday Territorian featured a refreshingly well done opinion piece about cyclists.

12. Who was that triathlete who went riding on Sunday morning in his partner’s nicks and risked a squeaky voice rather than go home and change?

13. Masters Swimming has an Australia Day invitational meet happening on Thursday morning at Parap Pool (free to enter). All short distances. If you would like more info and/or entry form please email.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

... your child always gets off their bike and starts running
… you are trying to manipulate your babies sleep and feeding times to fit round your training sessions
… you have a collection of goggles at various stages of deterioration that rivals the entire stock of some Darwin sports outlets.

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
