6.  Given the mileage done by our members who did the Argyle swims, I’ll predict there will be some fantastic category swim times posted at the Olympic Distance event.
7.  Andrew Johns was spotted out riding in Darwin over the weekend. I hear he was interested in doing our teams event, but memories are long.  He face planted the last time he participated at one of our events!
8.  Some new photos are up on Flickr from Lake Bennett and the teams events.
9.  Some big kilometres being logged on the bike as Cairns approaches.  Alice Springs, Gove as well as Darwin athletes are heading over for the IM and 70.3 distances

Robyn's E News 7 May 2012

Hi All,

You have to love long weekends!

It was a fun (but fast and furious) morning at Lake Alexander today.  The team themes were brilliant (if somewhat restrictive in the swim for some) and the spirit one of fun.  The results are listed but please take them with a grain of salt, given the amount of horse play and sabotage happening J

Thanks to Race Director John Thyne for all his efforts this morning, also to all the wonderful volunteers who also gave up their time to ensure this event was such a success.  The committee, competitors (and spectators) appreciate your contribution.

Our next event is our NT Olympic Distance Triathlon in a fortnight.  Entry is online and we would appreciate your assistance with early entry.  Not up for the full OD, this is a great event to get together and form a team of two or three.  Transition will be at the carpark adjacent the toilet block and the run will be three laps from stone gate to black gate.

OTHER NEWS:

1.  Congratulations to Michelle Mitchell on her win at Ironman Australia.  Michelle was a late withdrawal from Ironman Melbourne following injury & surgery to insert pins in her hand.  A great comeback !

2.  Lance Armstrong has a bit more work to do on his run.  Dropped to 3rd at IM 70.3 St Croix

3.  Blue Watt was tackled and “wedged” at the teams event this morning as a farewell gesture from his mates.  Blue and Christine head to the UK next week.  We wish them all the best.

4.  Congratulations to Jessy Young ~ married at the weekend.

5.  Appears nature beat a lot of the competitors at Ironman St George at the weekend including Jac Crofton.  The conditions in the swim were so bad it meant that Jac and over 60 other women and many of the guys didn’t make the swim cut off.  The horror day didn’t stop there as the wind, gusts at times of 70km an hour, saw even more abandon their race or not meet the bike cut off.  Understandably Jac is feeling grateful to be alive at this stage.  Hats off to Jac who was coming back from breaking her collarbone so worst possible scenario for her.  She now has the horror ironman story of all time to tell at dinner parties.

6.  Many of our members were involved in the Lake Argyle swim.  Hear that Ron Griep and Moira Wigley set a new record in the 20km teams event and Adrienne Willing was 2nd in the individual but haven’t located official results in time for this E News.

7.  Kylie Gaffel is celebrating her 5th Ironman Australia finish as well as a new IM PB.

8.  Rumours abound at Port Mac today with some changes to events in the pipeline. Also new events coming up in WA including this one at Albany.

9.  For avid M Dot race followers some good news; the athlete tracker is actually not broken. What is happening is that under some browsers it doesn’t refresh, even when you reload the page. By manually clearing the cache it will be OK.  Of course not everyone knows to do that, so they are looking to rectify that area of the program, hopefully in time for Cairns.

10.  Speaking of Cairns, we have a large number of athletes heading over and that is evidenced by the number of athletes out there training the house down.

11.  Congratulations to Justin Tranter, Monica Stewart, Ali Croser, Matt King & Helen Bretten plus Dave Croser at Reserve 1 named in the Sprint Team for Auckland. Also to Kate Robertson and Sue Parora who have made the Olympic Distance Team.  Dave will be hoping someone opts out now it is pay up & finalise nomination time.

12.  It was good to see many of the interstaters who raced our selection points events also made the TA Age Group teams for Auckland.

13.  We will be launching our new look club website soon.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you have your ear to the ground for new IM and 70.3 events
… you enter our NT OD event online today
… your body clock has an inbuilt Gu alarm

OTHER NEWS:

1. Triathlon Mixed Relay -ITU’s exciting mixed gender format - continues its rapid growth, with the announcement by the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Committee that it would be included on their sports programme for 2014.  Triathlon Mixed Relay consists of teams of four athletes: two men and two women, who will compete in the order of woman, man, woman, man. Each athlete completes a super-sprint triathlon of swimming, biking and running, before handing over to their next team mate. The first team across the finish line is the winner.

2. There is a lot of packing going on with our members taking off for different corners of the country (and overseas).  And that’s only the one’s we know about !  If you (or someone you know) is competing in an upcoming event we would appreciate hearing about it to make our athlete spotting in results so much easier.

3.  Returning to racing this weekend for the first time after having pins inserted in a broken hand that saw her miss IM Melbourne, Michelle Mitchell will be hoping for a good hit out at Ironman Australia.

4.  Entry for 2012 Ironman 70.3 Laguna Phuket is now open here.

5.  Some rumblings that we may see a return of IM to Malaysia.  Still, that’s what they were saying last year too !  Ironman Malaysia at Langkawi was one of my all-time favourite events so I’d like to see that.

6.  Online registration for our NT Olympic Distance Triathlon (20 May) will open soon.  Watch for details. CycleZone (Cavanagh St, opposite the Post Office) will be supporting this event and are providing a number of prizes.

7.  Not up for Olympic Distance yet?  Think about getting a team together instead for this event.

8.  Those dry land lovers are eagerly awaiting the start of our Duathlon series which kicks off soon.

9.  Entry for IM 70.3 Cairns is now full.  Limited spots for IM Cairns still available.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE AREN’T A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you don’t own a water bottle
… your cupboard doesn’t have a high percentage of lycra &/or coolmax items on the top of the pile
