Hi All,

From the chit chat, seems we are all greatly looking forward to our Open Water Triathlon this weekend.

There is a little housekeeping to be done prior to the event. Our AGM will take place then so it is essential that all participants are registered prior to 6.30am. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Agenda, Minutes of our previous AGM together with the financials are available. Please email if you would like copies forwarded to you. Audited financial statements will be presented to the meeting.

Race brief will be given after the AGM and we will then start the event at 7am. See you all there.

Note:

1. Wetsuit, speed suits, stinger suits are optional at this event only.

2. Please register by 6.30am as we have our AGM prior to this event.

3. Roads are open for this event & all road rules are to be adhered to, ride in single file, keep to left unless overtaking. Care to be taken at all times particularly passing hospital entrance and on roundabout.

4. This is a non-drafting event. Remember DRAFTING IS CHEATING.

TRIATHLON NT NEWS:

1. Level 0 Coaching Course:

Triathlon NT will be conducting a Level 0 Coaching Course on Saturday 22 September 2012. If you would like to get involved in coaching our juniors this year we would love to see you there.

The level 0 coaching course is aimed at parents, teachers and club members who wish to work with children or novice level triathletes. The focus of coaching at this level is on enjoyment, skills, safety and engaging appropriately with children and novice triathletes: fun, family and fitness.

When: Saturday 22 September

Where: Casuarina Pool

Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm

2. Triathlon NT is seeking expressions of interest from volunteers willing to be part of local organising committee (LOC) for triathlon (tbc, perhaps aquathlon) at the 3^rd Asia Pacific Outgames to be conducted in Darwin 10-16 May 2014.

The Asia Pacific Outgames is a regular regional event that consists of three components: Sports, Human Rights and Culture. It is an experience for the Asia Pacific’s rainbow communities and their friends.

1. There has been much checking of past results by the women who did Fernwood All Girls Tri. Congratulations to all those who have recorded pb’s.

2. You may have seen a new triathlon announced for May 2013 in Phuket. Rumour mill hot with a tri for Fiji around the same time as well. Bintan Triathlon also in May, ditto our Arafura Games.

Hi All,

Take a bow Darwin Triathlon Club. Our members were out in droves yesterday giving back to the sport by volunteering at the club’s Fernwood All Girls Tri. About 2/3rds of the field were non-members so they were also helping showcase our sport to the wider public. We all know what a great club we have, the message went a lot further yesterday.

A big thank you to all who helped make it such a successful open event. Event Coordinator Anna Goat and Race Director Steve Goat put in mega hours and we thank them both sincerely. They were assisted by many, many volunteers who we won’t even attempt to name for fear of missing someone.

We had volunteer assistance from Surf Lifesaving who covered our water safety, the technical team were there bright and early, drink stops were covered, roads marshalled, glass cleaned up, fruit and ice prepared, timekeepers were in place, setting up and clearing away done and a zillion other bases were covered.

There was a little confusion on the run leg during the race and this is reflected in some of the times. Participants will each know how far they ran.

If they stuck to the course and turned around at the correct turn points, completing two laps then they will have completed the correct 2.5km. If however they kept running to the Lake Alex entry gate before turning round, and completing this twice then they actually ran approx. 5km.

This little hiccup highlights the importance of turning up to the advertised race briefing, listening carefully and running your own race, and not just following the person in front and assuming they are going the right way.

A very positive spin off though is the number of women very, very proud of themselves for running further than they thought they could!

Our thanks to those who supported the event including Fernwood Gym, Cycle Zone, Wicked NRG, EyeInspire Photography, Tori’s Holiday Apartments, SOAS and Rob Brooks.

1. Fernwood All Girls Tri times are up on website. Congratulations to all participants.

2. Hy-Vee 5150 Triathlon, 1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run

Male: Javier Gomez 1.51.21 Female: Lisa Norden 2.01.59

3. Ironman 70.3 Ireland, 1.9km swim, 90km bike, 21.1km run

Male: Jan Van Berkel 3.54.35 Female: Tine Deckers 4.24.35

GEOFF SIMPSON MEMORIAL TROPHIES:

1. The Geoff Simpson Memorial Trophies are awarded to the athlete with the highest results in all three of our longer triathlons ie Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championship; NT Olympic Distance Championship and NT Long Course Triathlon Championship (in same calendar year).

2. As our Presentation Night was prior to Finlay’s NT Long Course this year we were unable to announce the winners at the function.

3. We congratulate Brett Verity and Stef Puszka our 2012 Geoff Simpson Memorial Series winners.

4. Brett won the Club Championships and NT Olympic Distance and was 2^nd at NT Long Course.

5. Stef was 2^nd at our Club Championships, 3^rd NT Olympic Distance and 1^st at NT Long Course.

2. Please place your order online here. Caps and visors are $25. Dare I mention Xmas is fast approaching and you may like to buy a couple extra while they are available. They will make ideal gifts.

3. I’ll distribute direct to those I see regularly or take orders to our event on Sunday for collection.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Some of the women at Fernwood All Girls Tri yesterday couldn’t be convinced to turn at the correct point because they could see others up ahead.

2. John Thyne’s beginner sessions leading up to Fernwood All Girls Tri were well attended.

3. Russell Peacock looked good in his pink Fernwood t-shirt yesterday.

4. The mechanical skills of Aaron Caden and the boys from Cycle Zone were in great demand in transition yesterday. We thank Cycle Zone for their ongoing support of our event.

5. Photos from yesterday’s event have been posted to our Facebook page. These and more will be uploaded to our Photos this week.

6. Derek Cross departs Wednesday for Vegas where he will represent Australia at Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Good luck Derek, wish him well if you see him over the next couple of days.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

... you are asked if you had a good time on your recent weekend away and you say 'I got 4 hours, I wanted 4 and a half so I was stoked'....you then realise they were asking if you enjoyed yourself !

… you have been asked to help someone prepare for next year’s Fernwood All Girls Tri

… you see broken glass near your place and you think nothing of going out & sweeping it up with a small dustpan and brush - beats a sure puncture & who cares if passers-by think you are a nutter !
